Intro
In Goals, you can view goals that belong to you in the personal view screen. They are grouped as Personal, Team, or Company, depending on whether you are an owner or member of a group that owns such goals.
You can also view goals in these other ways: Tree view, Lineage, and Search
Tree view
Tree view provides an entire hierarchy of a goal with its child goals. This view is accessible from the goal details view by clicking View Tree in the menu in the goal details page. No special permissions are required to do this; anyone with a default security role of "Participant" or higher can open the tree or lineage view for any goal in their Domo instance.
Once in the tree, you can click the numeral under a goal to see all child goals of that goal. You can also click in the background and drag the tree to where you want it, if it is too large to see in a single view.
Lineage view
You can see the lineage of your goal upwards using the lineage view. This view is essentially the opposite of the tree view, as it shows all parents of your goal up to the highest-level goal but does not show children. You choose this option by selecting View Lineage in the menu in the goal details page.
As with the tree view, you can click in the background and drag the tree to where you want it, if it is too large to see in a single view.
Search
If you are looking for a goal that you don’t own, or that you don’t readily see in your personal or team view, or in the Tree or Lineage, you can use the Search tab to find it. You can search by keyword in the Goals subtab, by owner in the People subtab, or by team in the Teams subtab. If you search in the People or Teams subtab, clicking a search result opens the corresponding user or group page.
Interpreting Goal Progress
As goals’ completion is entered into goals, progress levels are available in the UI. These are explained here.
In the personal, team or company view a summary bar that top of the page provides aggregate metrics for the goals that belong to the group represented on that page.
Overall Status: Is a subjective marker flag with three options toggled by the goal owner in the detail view for each goal. In this summary view, the statuses for all the goals being summarized are averaged together and one icon is displayed for the relative confidence you have as the owner of these goals in their expected completion. Status for goals in this tab is indicated via one of three icons: , which means the goal is on track to completion;
, which means the goal needs attention; and
, which means completion of the goal is at risk.
Average Progress: Is the average completion of the key results (or otherwise labeled metrics) for the goals in this view. Next to the number is a colored circle. Green indicating progress between 70% and 100%, yellow indicating progress between 40% and 65%, and red indicates any progress below 40%.
Status for [N] Objectives: To the right of the Average Progress, you’ll find a stacked bar showing the combined number of objectives in this group of goals at each level of confidence status.
- The Green segment of the bar represents the number of Objectives On Track.
- The yellow segment represents the number that Need Attention.
- The red segment represents the number that are At Risk.
Progress Level for [N] Key Results: to the right of the “Status for [N] Objectives” bar you’ll find another stacked bar showing the combined number of Key Results in this group of goals at each level of completion.
- The green segment of the bar represents the number of Key Results with achievement between 70 and 100%.
- The yellow segment represents the number of Key Results with achievement between 40 – 69%.
- The red segment represents number of Key Results with achievement between 0 and 39%.
