Actions in this article can only be executed by users who have a default security role of "Admin" or a custom security role with the "Manage All Goals" grant enabled. For more information, see Managing Custom Roles.
General Settings
As an admin for Domo Goals, you can manage general settings for Goals by navigating in Domo to the Admin area via the More menu in the top ribbon.
Select the Goals link and you’ll see the General settings tab.
Select Goals Nomenclature
From this dropdown, you’ll be able to choose the term used to define the metric or targets your organization uses to define progress with goals.
This term applies to all goals within your instance.
Create Time Periods for Goals
Before users can begin creating Goals in your Domo instance, at least one time period must first be created. Time periods generally correspond to your company’s fiscal quarters, months, or years (depending on how often you expect users to create new goals). Time periods created cannot overlap.
To create time periods for Goals,
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- In the Select a period to edit dropdown, select Create a new period.
- Enter a name for the time period in the Name field.
This is the name users will see for this time period when they go to assign a goal to a time period in the Goals Center. - In the Time period start and end dates fields, use the date pickers to select the desired start and end dates for the time period.
- Click Save.
To edit an existing time period, just pick the desired time period in the Select a period to edit dropdown then make changes to the name/dates as desired.
Set Check-in Cadence
To set check-in cadence for goals:
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- On the Goals Admin General tab, you’ll find a Weekly Goals email setting that drives the check-in reminder cadence used across your organization.
- Toggle the feature on or off with the Enabled button.
- Select the day and time you with for the weekly goals check-in reminder email to be sent to all organization members who have active goals.
Delegates Settings
In some cases, users of the goals tool may have a desire to allow someone else to create and manage goals on their behalf. For example, an operations specialist might create goals for a team, or an executive assistant might create goals for a CxO.
To allow Delegates:
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- Select the Delegates tab in the Goals Admin area.
- Search for and select from your Domo instance a user or group from the dropdown menu who is going to have a delegate help them.
- Choose the assigned delegate from the Select a delegate search box from the users available in your Domo Instance. Click Add. This screen also displays the list of all user groups with assigned delegates.
Tagging: Setting up Categories and pre-defined Tags
Domo Goals provides tagging functionality to help users better structure, align, and identify their goals. To provide consistency, Tags that users select and apply to their goals can be pre-defined by Admins. To add a level of hierarchy, Admins can also create a list of tag categories.
Tag Categories
To effectively manage a tagging initiative for your goals, often leaders desire managing tags in pre-defined groups or categories.
To create Tag Categories:
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- Select the Tag Categories tab.
- Create a new category by typing into the New Category box and clicking Create. The created category will be added to the list of Tag Categories below. As tags are created and assigned to Tag Categories, the number will be tracked to the right.
Tags
Often, teams will desire to track goals with the additional dimension of tags. These can be created by the admin, or by the users themselves. They can also be assigned to any of the Admin-defined Tag Categories for further grouping.
To create Tags:
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- Select the Tags tab.
- Create a new tag by typing into the New Tag box, and optionally, assigning it to a predefined Tag Category.
- Click Create.
The inventory of all tags is displayed, and is searchable below, with their assigned tag categories.
Key Results
Several attributes of how Key Results are managed can be controlled by the Domo Goals Admin. These settings apply to all Key Results in the instance.
To manage the global Key Results attributes:
- Navigate to More > Admin > Goals.
- Select the Key Results tab. Manage one or more of these options:
- Ranges: Modify the ranges for Red, Yellow, and Green legend demarcation for your entire organization’s goals by sliding the sliders on the bar in the Key Results Progress Color Changer and clicking Save. Defaults are 0 – 39%, 40 – 69%, 70 – 100%.
- Pacing: Key Results’ actual progress is driven by what input each KR experiences from either their connected data or the manual input from the user. Turning on Key Result Pacing will apply a linear-based comparison to each Key Result based on the number of days between the Key Result Start Date to Key Result Achieve by Date. This will provide a sense of whether the Key Result is ahead or behind schedule.
- Post-period Updating: Turning on, Continue Updating Card Data After Achieve-by Date will allow card-linked key results to continue to update after the achieve-by date has passed. This can be useful if all the data for your time period isn’t reflected in the data until after the end of the period.
Additional Administrator functions:
Structure the Org Chart
Some options in Goals are more effective if the Org Chart is set up. These include the Check-in section (for managers) and the View Org button on profiles. For more information on the Org Chart, see Viewing and Entering Peers in Your Company Org Chart. If you have any questions about filling out your Org Chart, talk with your Customer Success Manager.
Setting up Company Goals
It is important as a company or group, that you have Company Goals that are visible to everyone in the group. These should be the most important goals of the organization and form the point of origin for your team’s connections and lineage between goals. Users with the requisite grants can create a new goal or promote an existing goal to be a Company Goal.
To create a Company Goal,
- Create or select an existing Objective. For steps on creating an Objective, see Getting Started Creating Goals.
- Verify the Objective owner is the CEO or other top company leader as appropriate. Admins can reassign the Objective if they created it themselves or if it was created by someone other than the company goals owner. (Admins can always see and edit Objectives—even after they’ve been reassigned.)
- Make sure the Objective has no Parent specified.
- From the menu on that Objective, select Make this a Company Objective to make it visible in the Company tab for everyone to see.
It is important to create Company Goals as these are seen in the Tree view. The Tree view hierarchy is built by adding Children and Parents to Objectives. These signify how goals are related to one another. Parents are higher up the tree (closer to the Company Objective at the top) and Children are lower. For more information on the Tree view, see Viewing Goals and Reviewing Summary Progress.
